CVA Newsletter June 2022

Welcome from the new Board!

Following the AGM on the 29th March a new Board has been formed to run the Cardrona Village Association. With many thanks to the outgoing Board we retain Ian Nimmo as Treasurer, gaining Keith Donald as Secretary, Jennifer Misak as Chair. Isabelle Clements (Hall bookings) and Matthew Burnett-Godfree (Membership Secretary) were co-opted following the AGM. Minutes from meetings will be on the website in due course.

We’ve lots of plans to improve the website and make information about the CVA and activities easier to access, plus several extra volunteers helping to take forward projects for the village residents. Whether it’s improving the energy efficiency of the hall, getting more village amenities or liaising with our neighbours and partners. If you’ve an idea or something you want to see then please get in touch as we’re always on the lookout for more people to help!

The Cardrona Summer Fayre is back on Sunday 7th August 10am – 4pm.

Many activities are planned, with fun for all the family!! Contact annakirstyrutherford@gmail.com if you can help – we need people for on the day! Click here to see or download the list of volunteer slots needed – and then to volunteer yourself…

2022 Subscriptions are now due!

Also through your door is the subscription form, which you can also download here. Those at the AGM voted to retain the fee at £30 for 2022 – if you are able and want to please return this with the Gift Aid form filled in, this additional tax-relief boosts your subscription to £37.50 a big increase for our little group, and once filled in we don’t need it every year (but we do need it once!).

Please do support your village facilities – this subscription pays for the upkeep of all the common parts – the Hall, Green, carpark, pump track, playground, and allows us to put on events for the village and make improvements.

Congratulations to the Beltane Queen Elena Christie – our first Cardrona Queen! Also to all those P7s taking part. Enjoy the week! We’re hoping to see Cardrona decked out in red and white.

Clubs & Activities in the Hall

Please check the timetable on the noticeboards for details of the hall clubs & activities such as scouts, cubs, brownies, rainbows, toddlers, yoga, pilates, judo & more.

Remember the Hall is available for events – if you wish to organise an event, have a children’s party or wish to raise funds for a cause of your choice please get in touch. These events have a significant function to play in enhancing village life.

Many thanks to Jenny Gray for organising the recent litter pick – and for everyone turning up to help, they’ll be another in Oct so look out for it! Also Joy Espie, Verona Peace and helpers sorting out the fly-tipping under the bridge.

Good news for the village – Full fibre broadband is here!

Openreach has now confirmed that installation of Full Fibre broadband can now commence across the village.

This will provide faster, more consistent speeds e.g. for playing computer games, watching high-bandwidth TV, some will want to upgrade as soon as possible to Full Fibre. For those with less pressing needs, you will have some years (but not many) before you have to upgrade.

You can check on www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/ that it applies to your address and a list of service providers who will provide the Full Fibre broadband service. Select the one you want (they differ in speeds and costs)and place your order with them. They will then arrange the physical work to bring the fibre into your home, provide a new router and a new phone if you want to have a VoIP phone (Voice over Internet). You will lose your copper wire connection and your existing landline – the installers will use the existing copper wire to pull the fibre into your house.

Want to keep in contact electronically?

In the subscriptions form we’re asking for an email address – it would be great to have them to avoid paper-based, delivered newsletters, though we shall continue those for people without email.

If you have anything to include on the website or in future newsletters please get in touch at: info@cardrona-village.org. You can also sign up for email updates on the website. Please pass on this link to your Cardrona friends and neighbours, so they too can sign up for our emailed newsletter.
