Peebles to Innerleithen shared cyle/pathway

SBC have now placed contracts for the completion of the whole route from Peebles to Innerleithen, part of which will be tarmacked, while the rest will be a compacted fine whin.  The foundations for the bridge stations will be built in the near future and the bridge will be constructed off site ready to be put in place once the fishing season is over and the weather allows the final build.  The plan is to have the whole route completed before April 2013.  This means that we can all walk or cycle safely to Peebles, Glentress and Innerleithen.  Work has already started at the Peebles end as you can see from the A72.

There isn’t enough budget at this time to install benches and artworks etc along the route so this may be a secondary project for volunteers so please put your thinking caps on regarding fund raising for these extra facilities.  Innerleithen & District Community Council can source good, cheap benches via the Prison Service aka those installed at the playpark.  Local artists may want the opportunity to display their artworks.

The work done already by volunteer groups on clearing the pathway has reduced some of the project costs so many thanks to them.
